Problem: As the population of elderly immigrants are a growing group in the society and many came from war-affected areas and therefore with special experiences, we find it both interesting and relevant to examine the meeting between them and the Swedish-speaking home care staff. Aim is to study how older people who do not master the Swedish language experience care and how communication difficulties affect the daily care. The aim is also to examine whether the life experiences of elderly have affected their ability to learn the new language. Method: The method of our study is selected interviews. A total of six people have been interviewed and all respondents are female. Results: The results of this study show that respondents' previous experiences had an impact on learning of the Swedish language. The language is of great importance during the meeting between patients and home care staff, and when home care staff and patients do not speak the same language work becomes harder. Because of language difficulties, there may be situations that can be uncomfortable for both the elderly and for the home care staff.
