    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to study homelessness and crime in a life course perspective, and examining homelessness and crime related to each other. A further aim is to see whether drug abuse has a connection with homelessness, if it can possibly be a contributing factor to homelessness. Robert Sampson and John Laubs age-related theory of social control is the focus of the study. Interviews were conducted with individuals who are homeless now or who have been at some point in their lives, these were analyzed by a qualitative analysis of four steps to obtain results that could be compared with the theory. To provide a comprehensive picture of the situation regarding homelessness in Sweden and in other parts of the world, I have used a number of studies from both Sweden and other countries. My results demonstrate that a turning point can affect the course of life, both positively and negatively. The turning point can be about more than criminal behavior such as abuse or deviant behavior. Friends' lifestyles can also serve as a turning point in the negative direction, such as making it more difficult to distance from criminal behavior. Among all individuals who participated in the study came the drug abuse before the homelessness, but it is not possible to conclude that there is the abuse that caused homelessness. To determine this, further studies have to be done and additional factors have to be added in the analysis.
