    Abstract [en]

Multiple sclerosis, MS is a chronic, neurologic, autoimmune disease that often debuts in persons between 20-40 years, mostly women. It is about one of thousand inhabitants that get the disease. The disease causes disability in different degrees and extent. A dominating symptom in multiple sclerosis is pain. The aim of this literature review was to find nursing care that will relieve pain in persons with multiple sclerosis. Ten scientific quantitative articles from the databases Pubmed and Cinahl has been used. One result was that patients with multiple sclerosis have more pain and pain of higher intensity than persons without disease. Increased physical activities reduce pain and improve quality of life. Physiotherapy in outpatient rehabilitation leads to improved quality of life. Home based management in multiple sclerosis, is appreciated and gives the same result as hospital centre care. Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation and self-applied TENS gives pain reduction in persons with multiple sclerosis.
