The purpose of my research was to examine what happens in a cooperative learning environment. I have initiated a development project together with educators and children from a F-1class (an integrated preschool and grade one class). During a five week period, this class has worked in an interdisciplinary setting that included the subjects of math, dance and music, Swedish, drama, and art. The educators have documented what has happened with the aid of video, pictures and notations. Together our focus has been on the question: What happens in a cooperative learning environment? Results show that it is important that class work is organized on a small scale. A significant factor that results in good interaction is that the children work in small groups that are based on their individual interests and experiences.
