The purpose of the study was to analyze the use of history in Swedish high schoolbooks in history. The two world wars were used as objects of study. The wars were analyzed by several parameters such as which fronts and war crimes were described, how Sweden’s role in the wars was described and whether the ethics of the books were in tandem with the ethics of GY11. The study shows that the analyzed books focused on the actions of western countries and that the descriptions of the Eastern and Asian fronts of the wars were negligible at best. This added to the lack of descriptions of Eastern or Asian suffering lead to the conclusion that the analyzed books did not correlate with the ethics of GY11. Lastly, one of the important points of the essay was that the analyzed authors tended to focus on the symbols of the wars rather than the wars themselves.
