Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are one of the most common intellectual disabilities among children, adolescents and adults. They make a special group of patients that have special needs because of their difficulties to communicate and interact with other people. There is also a need for increased knowledge among health care personnel when meeting these patients. The purpose of this study is to identify specific needs of children and adolescents with ASD when receiving care in medical services. The study is a literature review where the purpose and question have been answered by examining scientific articles. The result identifies which specific needs patients with ASD have regarding care in health care services and how health care personnel can be prepared for meeting the special needs of children and adolescents with ASD.
