dc.description.abstract This essay examines the mods riots in Malmö 1965. My aim with this essay has been to examine with discourse analysis how the riots and youth’s identity was constructed in media and what impact this had on the youth’s possibilities to forma a political agenda. I have found that the media together with the authorities created a picture of the problematic youth. They did this thru exclusion of youth voices in the media as well as an overuse of other voices painting the picture of the riot and the mods as problematic. My conclusion is that the medias categorisation of the Malmö mod riots as a riot instead of a demonstration hurts the youths chance of making a political point. Furthermore, the construction of the youth’s mod identity as problematic children further delegitimated their chance of making a political point. en_US
