The purpose of this essay is to find out if local history is a good way of working in the school when you want to deepen pupils historical consciousness. To reach a result I created a material about Eslöv in the mid 1940s which I then tested on a group of pupils. Per Eliasson has developed theories about how historical consciousness can be deepened and they play a central role in my essay. The result of this essay points in the direction that the pupils, thru this way of working with history, have developed a deeper historical consciousness and that they clearly see their own part in our history. In the essay I discuss more details about the different factors in this type of study. The way of working with local history in schools are not widely spread in the higher grades, this is something we should change as this way of working deepens their historical consciousness and make them see their selves in a bigger context.
