In the work for a sustainable urban development a larger focus is now laid on local action to inform and encourage a general environmental awareness. This paper discusses the subject environmental information and describes how this can be used as a tool for knowledge-based development, change in attitudes and active participation in sustainable development. Theories indicate that in order to make the environmental information effective it should be shaped after the various characteristics of the receivers. The environmental information in this paper is focused on Lomma Harbour's environmental program and we have developed three methods to reach out with this program to the inhabitants in Lomma Harbour. The methods are based on a combination of theories, a survey and dialogue with the residents in Lomma Harbour and also on Helsingborg’s environmental information work. The purpose of this paper is to highlight how Lomma municipality and other municipalities effectively can communicate environmental information to their residents.
