Working as a nurse involves being in contact with death which can be a difficult experience. The aim of this literature review was to illustrate nurses’ emotions when patients die and different coping strategies used to manage those. The method used for this literature review was an overarching model witht seven steps to promote a systematic procedure. The literature search was performed in the databases PubMed and Cinahl. The quality review of included studies was performed with a protocol by Willman et al (2006) modified by the authors. The result from the nine included studies showed that grief was the most distinguished emotion but also for example anger and guilt. Most common coping strategies were talking to colleagues, distancing and avoiding the situation.
